The Director
The director university advancement Prof Sani Abba Aliyu, mni, was appointed 13th September 2021. He holds B.A (Hons) Literature, M.A Literature and PhD (English) from Ahmadu Bello University. In addition he has obtained additional qualifications UNESCO certificate in management of university enterprise partnership and income generation activities, Senior Executive Course 40 Nipss Kuru.
Prof Sani, started his academic career with the Department of English, ABU Zaria August 1982 and rose to the rank of senior lecturer 1992. He left on sabbatical appointment at the National council of arts and culture (NCAC) as assistant director research, May 93-Nov 94. He became Professor of Orature and African languages literatures on 1st October 2003. He was on secondment for four years in Gombe state University, Gombe where he served as the pioneer Deputy vice chancellor for two terms March 2005 to March 2009.
As an accomplished literatus, Prof Sani has taught several courses of undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, masters and doctoral levels at ABU Zaria. As an efficient and effective academic to date. Prof Sani has supervised more than 50 undergraduate projects, about 40 masters’ dissertations, and about 30 PhD theses. He has to his resume numerous academic publications.
Prof Sani has an outstanding administrative portfolio having served in various positions of authority at Departmental, Faculty, University and council committees as chairman and member. He served as head of department of English and Drama 2000-2003, Member Senate ABU Zaria, 1999-2003, secretary Zaria chapter ABU Alumni Association 1997-2004. Member governing council, Bayero University Kano. 2021-to date.
When We Come Together Great Things Happens!
Looking at the size of Ahmadu Bello University and also at the size of its estimated alumni (500,000), it is imperative to have a well staffed Advancement Office. The Directorate has unit heads for each of the four units. The Development unit has in addition, two programme office: in charge of corporate and individual giving respectively. The Communications unit has in addition, a protocol and events officer, while the Alumni Relations unit also has in addition an Alumni relations office. The Advancement unit has a database management officer.
