The Director of the Directorate of University Advancement, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, was appointed in May 2020. He holds BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), MSc in Construction Engineering & Management from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals Saudi Arabia and PhD in Construction Project Management from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. In addition, he has attended several technical and management training and workshops locally and internationally.
Prof Ibrahim started his professional career in 1994 with private practicing Quantity Surveying firms, notably Quartz Consultants and Ahmadu & Partners, before taking up academic position at ABU in 2000. He rose through the ranks to the coveted and enviable rank of Professor of Quantity Surveying/Construction Project Management with effect from 1st October 2013. Prof. Ibrahim’s research interests include construction cost modeling, continuous improvement and procurement management.
As an accomplished scholar, Professor Ibrahim has taught several courses at undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, masters and doctoral levels at ABU and Federal University of Technology, Minna. As an efficient and effective academic, to date, Prof Ibrahim has supervised over 50 undergraduate projects, about 40 Masters Dissertations and about 20 PhD Thesis to successful completion. He has to his credit over 120 academic publications (with over 90% in highly rated books & book chapters, international journals and presentations at international conferences). As a seal of academic integrity, he has received several awards and research grants from local and international sources.
Professor Ibrahim has built an enviable administrative portfolio having served in various positions of authority at Departmental, Faculty, University and Council committees as Chairman or Member. He also served as the Head of Quantity Surveying Department (2008-2012) and as the Managing Director of Ahmadu Bello University Consultancy Services (ABUCONS) (2010-2016) where numerous multi-billion naira worth of complex multi-disciplinary projects were executed. In these roles, he aptly proved himself as a good team builder, strategic manager, and proficient human resource manager.

Looking at the size of Ahmadu Bello University and also at the size of its estimated alumni (500,000), it is imperative to have a well staffed Advancement Office. The Directorate has unit heads for each of the four units. The Development unit has in addition, two programme office: in charge of corporate and individual giving respectively. The Communications unit has in addition, a protocol and events officer, while the Alumni Relations unit also has in addition an Alumni relations office. The Advancement unit has a database management officer.
